Pocket Park Plans: What Parks and Recreation Agreed To

After walking the park, MNA's Parks & Beautification Committee met with Tucson Parks and Recreation about irrigation, new plantings, and wildflowers along the path.

The Miramonte Pocket Park at 3rd Street and Richey Boulevard is the heart of the neighborhood, and it's the first focus of MNA's new Parks & Beautification Committee.

The walk-through

In September, the committee walked the park and noted what needed attention: debris, graffiti, chicken wire no longer needed around plants, dead plants, and problems with the irrigation. Neighbors had reported in May that the park's watering system wasn't working.

What the City agreed to

The committee then met with Tucson Parks and Recreation, which agreed to:

  • Share a map of the park's irrigation lines and the system's exact schedule, so neighbors can spot leaks or emitters that aren't working
  • Dig holes and help with new plantings this winter and spring, if MNA provides the plants and trees
  • Work with neighbors on wildflowers along the path, so maintenance crews don't remove them during regular cleanups
  • Clean up the park a day or two before the Halloween parade

How you can help

  • Come to the next neighborhood cleanup. Supplies are provided.
  • Join the Parks & Beautification Committee, or help water the chicanes. Get in touch.
  • See a problem in the park? Report it to the City through Tucson 311.
