A year after the La Rosa Arts Center opened at the Benedictine, here's where things stand on traffic and parking.
So far, so good
At the January board meeting, board members reported that parking and noise had not been a problem during La Rosa events. At the Annual Meeting in April, neighbors agreed that the red curbs painted at the Second Street intersection have made it safer.
Second Street turn lanes
The main open issue is getting out of the neighborhood on westbound Second Street at Country Club Road, especially when an event lets out. Marc Salerno presented options at the Annual Meeting, and neighbors had differing views on whether to allow left turns there.
In June, the board voted to support the City's plan to stripe separate left- and right-turn lanes on westbound Second Street at Country Club, north of the Benedictine. The change removes seven street parking spaces on Second Street but should make turns onto Country Club safer and quicker.
In October, Ward 6 staff said the office had been weighing the loss of those parking spaces near La Rosa. The board reaffirmed its support, and Ward 6 said it would move the project forward and give La Rosa notice.
City traffic study
City transportation staff told the board in June that a traffic assessment of the area around the Benedictine and La Rosa was planned for the fall. Engineers will observe the area three times a day, including during events, to study traffic flow and the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The City plans to publish the results by the end of 2026. Ward 6 is confirming the schedule.
