La Rosa Arts Center: Working Together on Parking and Traffic

As the new venue opens in the historic Benedictine Monastery, MNA has worked with La Rosa on a parking and traffic plan designed to keep event traffic off interior streets.

The La Rosa Arts Center is opening its doors in the former chapel of the historic Benedictine Monastery at 800 N. Country Club Road. Under the direction of David Slutes, the venue plans to host live music, comedy, and national touring acts.

What MNA has been doing

As opening approached, the association worked closely with David and the La Rosa team to make sure the venue launched with the neighborhood in mind. The two concerns residents raised most often were adequate parking for event-goers, and keeping event traffic on the Speedway and Country Club corridors rather than on Miramonte's interior streets.

At the September 10 board meeting, David presented a detailed parking and traffic plan:

  • Seven designated parking lots that hold more than 400 cars, through agreements with nearby "parking partners." Parking is steered to the north and northeast of the Benedictine.
  • A parking coordinator and attendants on hand during events. The main lot directly north of the Benedictine is a paid lot during events, and the other lots are free.
  • Staff parking along the curb on Anderson Avenue.
  • Traffic calming, including a left-turn lane from 2nd Street onto Country Club Road, and red curbs at key intersections to keep cars from parking too close to corners.

The possibility of resident-only parking permits was also discussed, if future conditions call for it.

What's next

MNA will keep pressing for transparency, responsiveness, and open communication as La Rosa becomes part of daily life in the neighborhood. We'll keep residents informed as programming ramps up and the impacts come into clearer focus.

After months of conversation and planning, we're glad to welcome this creative venue into the fabric of Miramonte. With continued collaboration, we believe La Rosa can be a vibrant and positive addition to the community.
