A Summer of Neighbors: The Ice Cream Social and Yellow Brick Coffee

Hundreds of people came to La Rosa for the Midtown Ice Cream Social, and Yellow Brick Coffee gave back to MNA all July. Two new ways of partnering with local businesses.

This summer MNA tried something new: teaming up with businesses in and around the neighborhood to bring people together.

The Midtown Ice Cream Social

On Sunday, August 9, hundreds of people from Miramonte and the surrounding neighborhoods came through La Rosa for the Midtown Ice Cream Social. Mr. Nature's Music Garden played, Sisters served soft serve, and a DJ kept things going.

The event was free, with donations welcome, so any family could spend an afternoon indoors during the worst of the summer heat at no cost. Neighbors gave more than $390 at the event.

Thank you to David Slutes and the La Rosa team for the room, the DJ, and their help putting it all together.

Yellow Brick Coffee

In July, Yellow Brick Coffee donated a share of Monday-morning sales to MNA whenever customers mentioned the association, and hosted a neighborhood meet-and-greet on July 20. Yellow Brick has also set up a 5 percent contribution back to MNA on business from Miramonte.

What's next

The board wants to bring both events back, with more advertising and better funding. Other ideas on the table include gatherings at the Bashful Bandit and Catalina pool, a carnival with St. Mark's, and a neighborhood movie night.

Own a business near Miramonte, or want to help plan the next event? Get in touch. The Events & Programming Committee would love to hear from you.
