Update: in August 2026 this work moved to the new Parks & Beautification Committee, chaired by Dave Meko.
At its October 8 meeting, the MNA board created a standing Committee on Beautification and Walkability. Its job is to organize future projects, identify funding, and get more neighbors involved in walkability, greenery, and placemaking.
- Chair: Dave Meko
- Co-chair: Ellen Wheeler
The committee isn't limited to board members. Any resident who wants to help beautify the neighborhood and improve the walking experience is welcome, including the neighbors who already care for the chicanes.
First project: the chicanes
Its first project builds on a proposal from Civano Nursery to supply and plant four species of desert-hardy plants in the neighborhood's traffic chicanes. The cost, $1,188, is being covered by the commercial real estate firm Larsen Baker. MNA pays up front and is reimbursed.
The board also thanks the volunteers who have been watering the chicanes.
