Fifth Street Improvements: Water Main, Sidewalks, and Streetlights

A multi-phase project brings a new water main, then sidewalks, streetlights, and repaving to Fifth Street between Country Club Road and Alvernon Way.

Update: the project is nearly finished. See our October 2026 streets update.

Major improvements are under way on Fifth Street, the neighborhood's southern boundary, east of Country Club Road.

The phases

  1. Water main replacement. A roughly 14-month project that started in spring 2025. As of September 2025, the City expected water main work to continue through May 2026.
  2. Pedestrian Safety and Walkability Project. Sidewalks, streetlights, and pavement rehabilitation from Country Club Road to Alvernon Way, expected to take about 15 months.
  3. Pavement rehabilitation from Alvernon to Wilmot. Expected to last about 18 months.

Questions about sidewalks and the timeline for walkability improvements came up at the September 2025 board meeting. MNA will share updates as we get them.
